CHARACTERISTICS/FEATURES
Special mention deserves this grape for being a single variety. Grown exclusively at Los Santos de Maimona (Badajoz ) and surrounding region, it is known as Eva Beba, and also known as Beba of Los Santos. Their vines are charactierised for having bunches of big size, and for being these ones very compact and their grapes big, rounded and with a greenish-yellow colour. The result? Wines of excellent quality, fresh and fruity.

ORIGIN
Everything started with the arrival of Mister Ezequiel Fernández Santana at Los Santos de Maimona (Extremadura, Spain) in 1908. Known as "the priest of Los Santos", his figure went beyond the religious environment, reaching a great importance in the agrarian world of the area. The creation and birth of the Eva Beba grape of Los Santos was one of the great innovative ideas of Mr. Ezequiel for the reconstitution of the vineyards after the attack that these ones suffered by different plagues inside the limit of the town of Los Santos in the '00, '10 and '20s of the last century. 

HISTORY
Eva Beba was consumed until the 70s as a table grape variety, with great commercial success in Spain .
In the 80s, it was displaced by other earlier table grape varieties until  almost total disappearance.
During the 90s and 2000s, it began to be used as wine variety, creating refreshing and aromatic wines like Semi-sweet TIARA and Dry TIARA.

ENVIRONMENT
Eva grapes are produced in the municipality of Los Santos de Maimona . This village is located in a valley of rounded hillocks where the deep clay lands are mostly rainfed , except for the irrrigated orchards that surround the village .The climate is mild, with short winters and hot summers. Land and climate are ideal for the production of this excellent grape variety.

WHO WAS HE?

Mister Ezequiel Fernández was parish priest of Los Santos de Maimona in the early twentieth century. His involvement with the social needs of the village at that time was fundamental and his legacy still alive.

HISTORY

Born to humble Extremadura farmers in 1874, Ezequiel Fernández Santana, soon to be known as “The priest of Los Santos”, secretly yearned to a priest.  Without his parents’ knowledge, he communicated with Ezequiel Santana, his uncle and priest of a nearby village, on how to enter the clergy.  The advice put Ezequiel in good stead as he followed and learned career gaining a PhD. in Theology soon after his degree in Civil and Canonical law.

In 1909 he moved to Los Santos de Maimona where he took the role of the village priest and immediately set about influencing the town in many ways: local schools, banks and Agricultural unions.  He authored several scholarly articles, wrote stories and plays, developed new educational and physical activities and in doing so was honoured, in 1917, by his adopted town as their “Favourite Son”.

In 1918, upon learning of Ezequiel’s great deeds the King of Spain himself, King Alfonso XIII, named him a Knight Commander of the Civil Order for his work to culture and education.

Notwithstanding his many accolades, Ezequiel, the Priest of Los Santos bestowed one final jewel upon the peoples of Spain, a new grape variety called Eva Beba, that was the product of his learned agricultural and civic bent.  This grape was the product of many years of work in taste evolution and disease resistance to the many plagues that had blighted the local wine regions.

The Priest of Los Santos’ legacy lives on in our wines' subtle flavours and exquisite textures.

Semi-sweet and Dry TIARA
Produced from Eva grapes.

The wines made from the Eva variety are pale yellow, with greenish bright hues, low alcohol as well as a very good balance between acidity and tropical and white fruit aromas. The sparkling touch of Tiara Semisweet provokes an instant freshness in the mouth, becoming a perfect wine for summertime.

Red Tiara: Tempranillo grape

Sometimes called "noble grape", the wines elaborated with this spanish grape variety are full bodied, with personality and great quality. Our wine shows an intense ruby colour known as "Red Tiara" with violet highlights. Its aroma mix red fruits, tobacco and vanilla.
